The Reef Hotels – Financial Mail

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

The Financial Mail reported, on 23 April, on three new hotels for the inner city – a 120-room four-star hotel in Marshall Street, near Rissik Street, opening this month; a 50-room five-star hotel near AAC headquarters and the Standard Bank superblock, which will follow later; and then, next year, a 150-room hotel in the same vicinity.

These are to be branded as The Reef Hotels, developed by Isaac Chalumbira and hotelier Gustav Krampe. Chalumbira has been active in property development in the inner city for some time.

I hear that funding for the first of these hotels, the R70m Reef Hotels, is from the Industrial Development Corporation and the ubiquitous TUHF (Trust for Urban Housing Finance). For some years now, the TUHF has been providing critical financing for urban revitalisation projects in the inner city as well as promoting BEE ownership.

Pine Lake Renovations

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Pine Lake Inn Hotel will be under-going a face lift and will therefore have fewer rooms available than it normally would. We hope and appreciate your understanding in this regard and hope you will be as excited as we are to see the hotel once it is completed.

The 2nd new wing of the hotel will be built and will be using the same Builder who built the new wing of the Hotel and the new conference room and restaurant extension and has worked well understanding the difficulties of building when the Hotel is operational.

On the 17th August 2009 the builder will erect a solid screen blocking off the Bungalows which is at the back of the Hotel and will not affect the main entrance, swimming pool, Tennis court etc. This is to ensure the smooth operation and high standards of our hotel that you, the guest, have become accustomed to.

He will then demolish the Bungalows which are all single storey, removal of trees and leveling off. This will take no more than a few days to complete and will happen over a period that will cause the minimum of disturbance to guests.

The new Hotel extension will only be 3 storey’s high so no heavy machinery will be used and the builders will work again only during the day.

The builder’s office and store room are at the far side of the complex away from the main building using a separate road from the golf course as their entrance, this will also reduce the noise factor to a minimum.

Completion is scheduled for mid April 2010
